Write Around Portland & NICU Families NW Begin Chapter Two
September 5, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - October 24, 2018 @ 8:30 pm
A central belief of NICU Families Northwest is that every story matters.
Every family, every parent experiences the NICU differently, and no two babies are alike. Owning your NICU experience— your story, can be very empowering and healing, and dedicating time to cultivate your voice and express yourself in writing is a form of self-care.
We are very excited to partner for the second time with Write Around Portland for a 8-week writing workshop exclusively for NICU Families Northwest beginning on Wednesday, September 5th (location TBD). This is a unique opportunity to have hands-on instruction in creative writing in a safe, welcoming, and inspiring environment, surrounded by NICU peers.
Join NICU Families Northwest for a weekly, hands-on workshop devoted to generative writing and the transformative power of writing in community. Using the acclaimed Write Around Portland model, this 8-week writing workshop exclusively for NICU Families Northwest begins on Wednesday, September 5th and runs through October 24th. This workshop is open to writers of all levels and incorporates exercises to inspire the writing life, including freewriting; work with writing elements; strength-building feedback and early-draft revision. This is a unique opportunity to have hands-on instruction in creative writing in a safe, welcoming, and inspiring environment, surrounded by NICU peers. Subject-matter is chosen by each workshop participant and is not limited to the NICU experience.
Space is limited to 14 participants and the workshop is most beneficial if you can attend the majority of the 8-week series. Notebooks, pens, snacks, water, and even bus tickets are provided (the latter is by request). Cell phone use is prohibited during the workshop, and all writing is done in the provided notebooks. Accommodations can be made for the visually impaired or for individuals who may need physical assistance in the form of a volunteer scribe. The workshop will culminate in an opportunity to be published in an anthology and a voluntary community reading that is open to the public. For more information about the Write Around Portland model, visit their website.
RSVP is required to confirm space availability (info@NICUFamiliesNW.org). Registration closes on September 3rd.
