Our first Year-End Appeal was a huge success and we were floored by the support of our local community. One very notable contribution came from Membean, the employer of one of our amazing volunteers.
Amber’s son Thomas was born at 31 weeks and 1 day, and stayed 27 days in the NICU at OHSU before coming home. With Thomas as her inspiration, Amber has logged over 20 hours of volunteer time with NICU Families Northwest. During her first Volunteer Day in August 2017, she put in put in over four hours of work preparing books and assembling We Care Packages. Immediately we knew this OHSU NICU graduate would be an incredible asset to our organization, and she eagerly took on any available work. She has made hospital deliveries, attended events, hosted Coffee/Chat meetups, written cards, packed boxes, been an active voice in our online community, and even partnered with Baby Blues Connection to create a NICU-focused postpartum support group hosted at the Ronald McDonald House (Portland West) every Tuesday night from 5-6:30pm.
As an employee of Membean: an Oregon-based company providing support for students, educators, and individuals to build their vocabulary and increase retention, Amber is offered three full days of paid time off in the service of others. Additionally, her monetary donations to NICU Families Northwest have been matched 100%! We love employers who support community service and employee giving, and we are fortunate and grateful Amber has chosen to spend many of those hours supporting the mission of NICU Families Northwest. We can only assume Membean feels as lucky to have Amber on their team as we do.
As our public Appeal for funds came to a close, we were contacted by Amber with the fantastic news that Membean wanted to make a $1,500 donation to NICU Families Northwest. This generous donation took us over our goal of $6,000 and helped guarantee local NICU parents will continue to have access to our critical programs and services in 2018.
We are so grateful for Membean’s support and we sincerely appreciate their advocacy for grassroots philanthropy as exemplified in their company giving and employee benefits. Thank you!
